Forest Management with Reduced-Impact Logging in Amazonia: Estimated Aboveground Volume and Carbon in Commercial Tree Species in Managed Forest in Brazil’s State of Acre

چکیده

Tropical forest management has both positive and negative effects on climate change, quantifying these is important to avoid or minimize impacts reward net effects. This study contributes this effort by estimating the aboveground volume carbon present in commercial tree species a managed harvest stage Brazil’s state of Acre. A total 12,794 trees were measured. Trees categorized quantified as: “harvested trees” (“harvest cut”), which felled stage, “remaining (“future cutting,” “trees permanent protection areas APPs,” “seed trees,” “rare protected law”) that remained standing post-harvest. Aboveground stocks 81 (diameter at breast height [DBH] ? 10 cm) totaled 79.19 m³ ha?1 21.54 MgC ha?1, respectively. The category represents 44.48% 55.49% stocks. In area, felled; composed bole removed (19.25 5.32 ha?1) stump crown remain as decomposing organic material (15.97 4.41 ha?1). We can infer stock (DBH 13.20% area. boles directly from represent 3.26% carbon, stumps crowns harvested loss an additional 2.70%. For sustainability system terms balance, growth 35-year cycle must be sufficient replace not only amounts (0.27 year?1) but also losses collateral damage logging-related increased vulnerability fires. Financial viability future cycles will depend replenishment harvestable size 50 cm).

Forest Management Influences Aboveground Carbon and Tree Species Diversity in Myanmar’s Mixed Deciduous Forests

Declines in the global extent and condition of tropical forests have reduced carbon storage potential and caused biodiversity loss. However, the magnitude of these problems within individual countries may depend on the extent of the reserved forest estate, and the particular rules put in place to manage resource use in these areas. To test this hypothesis, aboveground carbon stocks and indices ...

Aboveground Biomass and Carbon in a South African Mistbelt Forest and the Relationships with Tree Species Diversity and Forest Structures

Biomass and carbon stocks are key information criteria to understand the role of forests in regulating global climate. However, for a bio-rich continent like Africa, ground-based measurements for accurate estimation of carbon are scarce, and the variables affecting the forest carbon are not well understood. Here, we present the first biomass study conducted in South Africa Mistbelt forests. Usi...

Species loss and aboveground carbon storage in a tropical forest.

Tropical forest biodiversity is declining, but the resulting effects on key ecosystem services, such as carbon storage and sequestration, remain unknown. We assessed the influence of the loss of tropical tree species on carbon storage by simulating 18 possible extinction scenarios within a well-studied 50-hectare tropical forest plot in Panama, which contains 227 tree species. Among extinction ...
